Research Interests
During my master at Virginia commonwealth University, I was engaged in the ongoing project entitled “NFI-X3 regulates astrocyte specific gene expression”. In this project I helped sub-clone flag-tagged NFI-X3 transcription factor and further made stable cell line overexpressing this protein. NFI-X3 is a novel splice variant of the NFI-X transcription factor that is critical to specifically induce marker gene expression in astrocytes. This work led to a publication in J Biol Chem. 2011 Mar 4;286(9):7315-26. This publication has recognized my work and I am a co-author. I continued working under the mentorship of Dr. Tomasz Kordula for my Master`s thesis entitled as, “Analysis of the mechanism by which YKL-40 promotes glioma cell migration”. YKL-40 is a secreted extracellular matrix protein that is upregulated in malignant glioblastoma. It controls glioma cell migration and invasion. My thesis work has identified syndecan-4 as a downstream effector of YKL-40 induced cell migration and invasion. This work is still under the completion which will lead to a publication.
